'Twas the Night Before Christmas...

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, except for a mouse.

The cookies were set on the counter with care,

With no prior knowledge that a rodent was there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of surfing danced in their heads.

And mamma in her jammies, and I in my cap,

Had just settled our bums for a long winter’s nap.

When out in the kitchen there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away through the house we flew like a flash,

Into the kitchen, with a pant and a gasp.

When what to our wondering eyes should we see,

But a giant mouse, who was eating our treats.

With his little nibbles, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment I was going to be sick.

More rapid than eagles his footsteps they fell,

And he ran, and we shouted, and cursed him to hell

"You bastard! You menace! You disease ridden cad!”

Oh boy I can tell you, we were all really mad.

“He’s in the drawer! In the cabinet! Now next to the wall!”

He was impossible to catch, so fast and so small!

He ran all around us, while I flailed and I flopped,

That is, until, mom picked up her mop.

Screaming and ranting she chased after that bastard

But all that happened was he ran much much faster.

She spoke not a word, but went straight to her work,

And that mouse he did run, that stupid fuzzy jerk.

She hit and she banged that mop on the floor,

She hit and she hit, till the mop was no more!

The mop in shatters, that mouse he did flee

Out of the kitchen, to the top of the tree.

And I heard him exclaim, ‘ere we gave up the fight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
